Avocado Oil For Increasing Collagen in the Skin

By: Andrea Marshall

A study in Israel showed that avocado oil was effective for increasing collagen in the skin. That could provide a significant benefit for reducing wrinkles and improving firmness, because aging collagen fibers is one of the causes of those things. But, the most effective anti-aging creams address the other causes, too.

One of the causes of aging collagen fibers is free radical damage. Free radicals can have a negative affect on all of the cells of the body, especially when they become frenzied.

The things that cause the molecules to become frenzied are often listed as the causes of wrinkles. UV radiation from the sun and cigarette smoke, for example, are often mentioned as the cause of wrinkles, roughness and lost firmness.

If increasing collagen production can occur, but the issue of free radical damage is not addressed, then only a small amount of benefit will be seen. Free radical damage can be prevented and repaired with creams containing antioxidants like coenzyme Q10.

A number of studies have looked at the benefit of topically applied coenzyme Q10 for aging collagen and sun damage. The results vary, depending on the type of coenzyme Q10 that is included in the product.

The size of the molecules must be reduced in order for the nutrient to penetrate through the skin's layers and repair aging collagen fibers.

Using nanotechnology, manufacturers are able to produce an emulsion that penetrates through seven of the skin's layers. That would put the nutrient in the layers that contains the elastic fibers.

Lots of products on the market contain COQ10, but very few contain the nano-emulsion form.

Another of the causes of wrinkling and sagging is low levels of hyaluronic acid within the skin. Many anti-aging products contain hyaluronic acid, but the compound is quickly broken down by enzymatic activity.

Extracts from wakame kelp have proven benefits for inhibiting the enzymatic activity, which allows levels of hyaluronic acid to rise naturally.

Another of the causes of an aged appearance is decreased thickness in the skin's layers, due to decreased production of new skin cells. So, in addition to increasing collagen content, increased production of new skin cells is desirable.

Several different compounds have been shown to increase the production of new cells. One of the most effective is the protein keratin.

Creams containing the active form, not the denatured form, of keratin have been shown to increase skin cell proliferation by as much as 160% in as little as three days.

With the technology that is available, today, increasing collagen, skin cell production and firmness is possible without a visit to the cosmetic surgeon. Companies just need to do their research and provide the highest quality ingredients.

If you have started to see signs of aging collagen, now is the time to start using nourishing creams that support cellular rejuvenation.

If you have friends that haven't started to see them yet, tell them about the importance of using anti-aging moisturizers on a regular basis. Increasing collagen production is more difficult than preventing or delaying their degradation, in the first place.
