Lemon Essential Oil

A very popular citrus fruit the world over, lemon essential oil is used for it's vitamin content and it's culinary properties. It has benefits such as having properties that include being stimulating, calming and carminative. It has anti-infection properties, it is used as an astringent, it is detoxifying, is used as an antiseptic, a disinfectant, it is anti-fungal and induces sleep. It is used for skin disorders, insomnia, to lose weight, for stomach problems and to treat tiredness. It aids in digestion and provides flavor and aroma to foods as well as being used as a drink that is healthy, tasty and low cost.

Wonderful to freshen the air with and increase productivity in work environments, the inhalation of lemon essential oil increases concentration and alertness. It helps to eliminate stress and calms the nerves, removes tension, anxiety, exhaustion and mental fatigue. It is useful in improving the mood as it refreshes the mind and creates a positive attitude.

For the skin it is useful in treating blemishes, oily skin and other skin disorders. It increases the luster of the skin as it detoxifies and is an astringent. It helps one to get a good night's rest, increases circulation and strengthens the immunity system. Known to fight infectious disease such as typhoid and malaria it is also great in treating cramps and stomach upsets.

Used as a hair tonic is offers shiny, healthy and strong hair and it also removes dandruff. Drinking a little lemon juice will aid in weight loss. For tiredness it refreshes and stimulates. It removes mental and physical exhaustion. It has been used for the treatment of asthma.

Some other uses are it is a great cleaner for the body, metal surfaces and as a disinfectant. It is great for cleaning butcher block and knives. It can be used in soaps, facial wash and personal care items as it is an antiseptic. Because of it's distinct aroma it is used in perfumes, scented candles and in potpourris. Lemon oil blends well with other essential oils such as tea tree oil, ylang ylang, geranium, sandalwood, neroli, rose and lavender.

As a freshener, a bit of lemon oil in the shoes can make for a great deodorizer. It is great as an air disinfectant and germicide. Due to it's vitamin C content is is great for stimulating the immune system and treating colds and fevers or prevention of them. It is a key component in anti-cellulite products and is know to increase circulation.

It is effective with cancer patients in neutralizing odors and is used in hospitals regularly. It's properties can last a few weeks and it can kill the germs that cause meningococcus, pneumonia, typhoid and staphylococcus. Inactive tuberculosis and diphtheria bacterias can be killed with a 0.2 percent solution. To treat scurvy, sailors discovered that lemons and limes were beneficial to bring on board on their long sea voyages.

To strengthen vascular tissues and aid in the treatment of varicose veins, lemon essential oil relieves pressure on the veins and improves circulation. It treats anemia with it's powerful vitamin C content. Adding a few drops to a cold sore will lessen the pain and promote faster healing.
